diamonds & rust~
a cover.
Hai !!!!
(this note sums up my current mood - can makeup dispel my ennui? tbd.)
I hope everyone is really well. Today just a quick one! I planned to do two covers this weekend but, alas, only had time for one. More incoming.
I remember the first time I heard a song by Joan Baez. It was her rendition of House of the Rising Sun, a more blues-y version of the one by the Animals, which I was already pretty familiar with. Oh my! How she hit those notes!
After hearing that, I was hooked. I listened to her album Diamonds and Rust over and over, especially the titular song.
This is my rendition. Sans folk-y visual aesthetic, sans many effects. Just me, at home, in my studio, trying to convey the atmosphere of a song written about a long lost lover. To me, the song is wistful, beautiful. Of course, it helps that it opens with the gorgeous line:
“Well I’ll be damned, here comes your ghost again, but that’s not unusual, it’s just that the moon is full, and you happened to call.”
What poetry! A ghost? No, just a person from the past, their voice coming in from the ether over the telephone… and the moon. The moon.
I hope you enjoy!

p.s. the algorithm doesn’t seem to be super friendly to my account since i took my break (whaaaaa??!?!??! a tech company / media platform not caring about ppl needing REST!? shocking! so any engagement is doubly appreciated danke danke) <3.

Awsome cover, just like the Judas Priest one. Of course yours is a more serene mellow auditory journey. Good job!
Geez, this is SO good 😱! Thank you so much for posting this!
